Here are some tips that can improve the performance of your alarm system.

Central Station and False Alarms

When you accidentally "trip" your alarm, here's what you should do:

  • Call Central Station Immediately and request to cancel dispatch.  Please be advised that some cities will not permit dispatch to be cancelled.
  • Know your system and codeword!  Incorrect or No codeword will result in a Police Dispatch and possibly a false alarm fine.
  • Make sure all zones are secure (doors and windows must be locked).
  • If you have contacts, motion or audio (glass break) detectors make sure that windows and doors are secured and fit properly. A breeze can move curtains and plants, causing motion sensors to trigger. A glass break detector may react to outside noise (i.e. Lightning).
  • Keep insects and spider webs away from motion detectors.
  • Before setting your alarm system make sure family pets are in a "safe" area where they will not disturb motion detectors, unless detectors are pet immune and within immunity levels.
  • Let the office know when you get a new pet.
  • If you need to go back into your house after arming your system, take time to disarm the system, then rearm when you leave.
  • Do not allow any moving items to remain in an area where a motion detector is located. Loose banners, fans and balloons may cause false alarms.
  • Everyone with a key to your property should know how to operate the system and the codeword.
  • Call the alarm company before tenting fumigation or remodeling your home to get advice on how to prevent false alarms from smoke detectors caused by fumes or dust.
  • Investigate all unexplained alarms. Test your system on a regular basis.
  • Make sure that your emergency contact list is current and accurate.

City Information and Permits/Registrations

Each city has their own requirements regarding your alarm system,

 please contact our office (954) 963-3366 M-F.

How the Miami-Dade Ordinance Works:

Every registered alarm user is allowed three "free"

false alarms within a calendar year,

January 1st to December 31st

False alarm response fees are imposed beginning

with the fourth false alarm within a calendar year.

Fines Schedule

Fourth false alarm: $50.00.

Fifth false alarms: $100.00.

Sixth and each additional false alarm: $200.00.

Failure to register an alarm system: $50.00.

Failure to Register an Alarm:

The fine for a false alarm from a non-registered alarm system is $50.00.

An alarm user will be considered in violation of the alarm ordinance if they:

  • Fail to register their alarm system(s)
  • Fail to pay the imposed false alarm response fees

Failure to register your alarm system or pay any outstanding fines will place the concerned location on No Response; the Miami-Dade Police Department will no longer respond to audible and silent intrusion alarms. The Miami-Dade Police Department will only respond to hold-up, ambush, panic and silent duress.

Alarm Registrations are Not Transferable.

DSL and your Alarm System

Contact us if you are thinking about installing DSL in your home or office.  We will ensure your alarm system and DSL are working well together.

Testing your Alarm System after DSL installation

If you have installed DSL already, it is important that you ensure that DSL is not interfering with your alarm system:

  • Contact us and have your account put in "test" mode.
  • Turn on your computer and go online.
  • Activate your alarm in the armed mode.
  • Wait 30 seconds and intentionally "trip" the alarm.
  • Let the siren ring for 30 seconds.
  • Call us to make sure your signal was received.

If Central Station did not receive your signal, you may need a special DSL filter designed for alarm systems.

Home Security Tips

Consider the following statements and evaluate your home.

  1. Doors are solid wood or metal.
  2. Doors fit well into opening, not loose or badly damaged.
  3. Doors include deadbolts of high quality.
  4. Windows are secure with no broken glass or locks missing.
  5. Curtains or shades are drawn to prevent anyone from looking into your home.
  6. Emergency numbers are posted close to all telephones.
  7. Valuables are marked, inventoried and photographed.
  8. Spare keys are kept with trusted neighbors, not under the rock or mat outside your home.
  9. Trees and bushes are kept trimmed around your home.
  10. Lights outside your home are working properly.

If your home is deficient in any of these areas, take time to make the necessary corrections.

When Leaving Town

Do You:

  • Have someone collect your newspapers and mail?
  • Park cars in your driveway?
  • Leave various lights on?
  • Have someone watch your home for you?
  • Have someone mow your yard?
